Description
The Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) is one of Africa’s most colourful birds, with vibrant lilac, turquoise, and green plumage. Known for acrobatic flight displays, especially during mating season, it performs dramatic dives and rolls, giving it the name “roller.” Found in sub-Saharan Africa, it inhabits open savannahs and woodlands, often perching conspicuously to hunt insects, small reptiles, and scorpions. Its bold colours and fearless nature make it a favourite among photographers and a symbol of the African wilderness.
