Description
The portrait of the Amegilla bee unveils intricate details, highlighting the hidden beauty of this small creature. Often perceived as just another bee, a closer inspection reveals a stunning array of tiny hairs and intriguing facial features, showcasing its unique personality traits.
Belonging to the tribe Anthophorini, the genus Amegilla includes approximately 250 species. These solitary bees do not live in communal hives but independently in ground soil or mud bricks. While they do not produce honey, Amegilla bees are vital and efficient pollinators. Their specialised “sticky hair” helps pollen adhere as they forage on flowers. Though non-aggressive, they can sting in self-defence.
