Description
Ceropegia haygarthii is a remarkable species within the Ceropegia genus, native to South Africa. Known for its unique and exotic appearance, this plant is often referred to as the “Bushman’s pipe” due to the shape of its flowers, which resemble a small pipe or funnel. The flowers are striking, with a mix of creamy white and deep maroon hues, and are covered in fine hairs that give them a velvety texture.
This Ceropegia thrives in well-drained soil and requires minimal water, making it well-suited to dry, rocky environments. It has a fascinating pollination mechanism: its flowers emit a faint odour that attracts small flies. Once inside the flower, the flies become temporarily trapped, allowing the plant to ensure successful pollination before releasing them.
