Description

“The Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) is widely described as the largest eagle in Africa.
Its name aligns closely with its scientific name. In Latin, “bellicosus” means warlike, and the English word “martial” carries the same meaning -from the Latin martialis, which means “of Mars,” the Roman god of war. Other eagles may equal or exceed it on a single metric — body mass, strength, or wingspan — but none match it when all factors are combined: overall size, wingspan, and aerial dominance”.
