Description

The male Malachite Sunbird was instrumental in teaching me the nuances of bird behaviour and the basics of the ancient art of bird language. Initially sceptical of his abilities as a father, I was quickly won over as he proved himself to be an exemplary parent, diligently helping to raise and protect his fledglings.

Malachite Sunbirds are larger than most sunbirds and exhibit incredible agility and speed in flight. The sudden green flash of the male as he chases away unwelcome intruders or rival males is a fleeting but striking sight. His stunning metallic green plumage stands out in the landscape and helps attract potential mates.
