Description

As one chapter with the Malachite Sunbird family closed, another began with a male Orange-breasted Sunbird (Anthobaphes violacea) and his charming little mate. The pair arrived one day shortly after the Malachite’s story ended and have been residing in the fynbos above my house ever since. They visit my garden every day, indulging in Jacuzzis in the bird bath and laying claim to the sugar water bottle I’ve hung to support the birds.

The male has become the self-proclaimed boss of all bosses, deciding who gets to drink from the feeder and who doesn’t. A wave of sheer jubilation washed over me as I realised the next story was already in the making.
