Description
Gulls are a diverse group of seabirds belonging to the family Laridae, with an evolutionary history that stretches back to the Miocene Epoch, which lasted from approximately 23.03 to 5.3 million years ago. During this period, the Earth experienced warmer global climates, setting the stage for the evolutionary adaptations of these resilient birds. Modern gulls, as we know them, have evolved from these ancient ancestors over millions of years.
While on holiday in Mozambique, I captured a late afternoon photograph on the sand dunes. Once again, a faithful gull appeared, completing the scene with its characteristic presence and adding the finishing touch to the image.
