Description
White-fronted Bee-eater(Merops bullockoides) – Like peregrine falcons, which use dark facial stripes to reduce glare when tracking fast prey, the White-fronted Bee-eater’s black “Zorro” eye stripe “may” help sharpen vision in bright light—similar to how US football players apply eye black to absorb sunlight and stadium glare. In colonies, it “may” also help birds recognise colony members and mask the eye from predators or prey.
