Description
The Grey Go-away-bird (Crinifer concolor) is a common resident in southern Africa, instantly recognisable by its smoky grey plumage, long tail, and distinctive crest. Known for its loud, nasal “go-away” call—hence its name—this call serves as an alert to potential predators and a way of communicating within flocks. These birds primarily feed on fruits, flowers, and leaves, often acting as seed dispersers, which plays an important ecological role. They have a sociable nature and are often found in small groups, foraging in open woodlands, savanna’s, and even gardens.
